Oasis Next Step

In a large campus it can easily feel like we are just another face in the crowd. You can be surrounded by people and yet feel so alone.

Well, we'd like to offer a solution. We like to describe Oasis as a place where "Ohio State just got smaller". In our church gathering we hope you feel included in a large family. And in our smaller gatherings we offer environments where you can connect with other people on a personal level.

Meet the Staff & Student-Leaders

Staff

Seth Evans is the pastor of Oasis and has been serving in full time ministry at OSU since 2003. He is also a Licensed Professional Counselor with WellSpring (a Christian counseling agency). He helped plant a church, Grandview Christian Assembly, led by many Oasis staff & alumni in January of 2009. Seth has led mission trips to Uganda & Guatemala. On June 12, 2010, he married Rebecca. Rebecca Evans teaches English at a local high school and helps lead the band, small groups, and discipleship. She loves photography and scrapbooking.

Ray Derr is an OSU student and employee - working in the IT department. Ray is a tech guru and a twitter master. Ray is key in most areas of Oasis, including discipleship, the band, and some preaching on Sundays.

Corey Fronk is a 2011 Ohio State & Oasis graduate. He is currently working for the State Auditor. He is a key coordinator for almost all areas of Oasis operations and will be doing some of the preaching on Sundays. He is an ultimate frisbee and ballroom dancing guru.

Kyle Phillips is an OSU student with a heart for people, involved in small groups, discipleship, the book club, women's ministry, and serving on Sundays. She is a small town girl living it up in the city of Columbus.

Chris White is a Bible study leader, king of the sound board, plays in the band, and is another key person in the world of video work and technology in general.

Church Services Right On Campus!

Join us for incredible singing and solid & relevant Bible teaching each Sunday at 11:11am in the Ohio Union's Davis Interfaith Prayer Room on the third floor. Come early for some coffee, juice, and snacks. We hope to make you feel at home and provide a place where you can invite your friends.

Get Connected with Small Groups!

Small Groups provide a great way to dive into the Word of God in a smaller setting. They are designed to be facilitated and not "lecture based", so you can enter into discussion and explore the Bible together. The groups are also great ways to enter into friendships, discipleship opportunities, and leadership opportunities.

Men's Small Group: Mondays 8:30pm - 2307 Neil Ave (North Campus). Contact Corey or Ray for more info.
Oasis Small Group: Sundays 7:00pm - Ohio Union 3rd Floor (check the calendar for which room). Contact Seth or Rebecca for more info.

Opportunities to Serve & Grow Together!

Service & Leadership Opportunities: Looking to get involved in an area of service right away? We have room for you! Oasis offers many areas for you to get involved. Contact Seth Evans for details, but here are just a few:

Music Ministry - Help start a second worship band this year.
Audio/Visual - Serve as a roadie, or on the sound board, or recording & editing, or Media Shout, etc.
MC - Be on a team to help oversee and coordinate the Sunday meeting.
Greeting Team - There is nothing like being greeted at the door by a smiling face, handed a bulletin, and directed to some food to make you feel welcomed.
Website - Do you love doing stuff with websites & facebook?

Gospel Outreach: We believe in announcing the good news of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Check out our calendar for days that we will be on campus or connecting with Grandview Christian Assembly for servant evangelism in the community.

Mentor-Based Discipleship: According to the Bible, a key part of a Christian's growth is to be discipled and to disciple others (Matthew 28:19). With this in view, Oasis offers mentor-based discipleship programs to help students grow to maturity in Christ. The first level discipleship program, Solidify, lays a firm foundation in the Christian faith as well as helping the participants learn to share their faith The following levels takes discipleship to a more comprehensive level by covering four crucial aspects of the Christian faith - the Bible, inner life, ministry, and character. Weekly & Special Events: We have weekly & special events such as TGIF's (times of fun & socializing of Friday nights), Men's Nights (a time for guys to eat, do manly stuff, and address guy issues), and Women's Nights (like the men's nights but focused on women's needs). The latter two will sometimes be done with Grandview Christian Assembly, opening up opportunities to connect with those who are further down the road of life.

Retreats: Oasis aims to go on one retreat each semester. These are wonderful times to get away from the daily grind & distractions of campus to focus in on Jesus Christ. The retreats also make great bonding times where friendships can be started or further established.

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
